Ho Thien Pagoda
Ho Thien Pagoda, the word name is Tru Phong Tu. The pagoda is located in the south of Foshan mountain, formerly in Phu Ninh commune, Me Son canton, Dong Trieu district, Kinh Mon district, Hai Duong province; now belongs to Phu Ninh village, Binh Khe commune, Dong Trieu town, Quang Ninh province. The pagoda is located in the middle of Tru Phong mountain, at an altitude of 580m above sea level, in the south of Foshan mountain (in the Yen Tu range), behind and on both sides of the pagoda are surrounded by mountains, in front there are hills forming a mountain. a blessed land in the middle that according to feng shui is "left dragon, right white tiger, after has occipital, before has judgment".
Ho Thien Pagoda was built by Phap Loa - the second patriarch of Truc Lam Zen Sect in 1327. Legend has it that Ho Thien is the place where high monks cultivate after successfully completing their courses at Quynh Lam Institute. The pagoda's name is Ho Thien because legend has it that there is a lake on the top of the mountain (a lake in the sky), on which every year a pair of white cranes often fly back with the song: "The lotus flower blooms and fades, a pair of white cranes are leisurely spending knives". In fact, there is no lake on the mountain, but the word "Ho" here means convergence and the word "Thien" means heaven. Ho Thien here is to refer to the scene of Buddha in the fairyland, to praise the beautiful scenery where Ho Thien was built.
According to historical documents, on November 1, 1308, Truc Lam Dieu Ngu Tran Nhan Tong entered Nirvana and transformed into a Buddha, Phap Loa officially became the second of Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect and became the Patriarch of Zen Buddhism. Dai Viet Buddhist Church. During the time when Phap Loa owned the Church, Vietnamese Buddhism developed in all aspects, he built temples everywhere, the Church was expanded, the number of ordained people joining the Truc Lam Church was increasing, including many princes and princes. Up to 1329, the number of monks who had been ordained in the world group organized by the Truc Lam Church under the leadership of Phap Loa was over 15,000 people, of which the son-in-law had attained over 3,000 people. In addition to teaching and practicing meditation for monks, Phap Loa is also interested in building a system of temples. During this time, pagodas, Buddhist temples, and Buddhist temples flourished everywhere. He built 5 stupas, two large religious practice establishments in Quynh Lam and Bao n and some famous temples such as Con Son, Thanh Mai, Ho Thien....

Under Le Trung Hung, along with Quynh Lam and Vinh Nghiem pagodas, Ho Thien pagoda was greatly restored and embellished by the Le court. To rebuild the pagoda on a large scale as the traces still exist, the court mobilized people in 5 districts of Giap Son, Thuy Duong, Dong Trieu, Kim Thanh and Thanh Ha. During this overhaul, new constructions were built, including: Main Pagoda, Monk House, Ancestral House, Tower Garden and Stele House.
Over time, the main temple, the monk's house, and the ancestral house have collapsed but the foundation is still quite complete. Currently, Dong Trieu town has cooperated with functional agencies and researchers to organize archaeological excavations of Ho Thien relic. The authorities have also approved the project to restore and embellish this monument. After being restored and embellished, Ho Thien Pagoda will become a destination for people and tourists from all over the world to visit and worship; is a place for high monks to go to meditation retreat according to Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect.
According to field research, the relics and architectural vestiges still on the ground at Ho Thien Pagoda were basically built and restored under Vinh Huu. During this major restoration, new constructions were built including: Main Pagoda, Monk House, Ancestral House, Tower Garden and Stele House.
Main pagoda area: The main pagoda is built on a wide ground, at an altitude of 580m above sea level. In particular, the main temple area is built on an area of more than 700m2. The pagoda was built on the main North - South axis, the ground is shaped like Cong, the structure consists of 03 interconnected works: Tien Duong, Thieu Huong and Thuong Dien

Tien Duong: located in front, has a rectangular floor plan, an area of 202.5m2 wide (length of East - West 22.5m; width of North - South 9m), structure of 5 compartments, 6 rows of columns, wide nave 4.4m, the two sides are 3.9m wide. The distance between the main column and the average column is 2.1m, between the main columns in one is 2.9m. On the remaining foundation, a system of rocks for the foot of the column, stone for the shelf and stone for the lower beam.
Thieu Huong: located between Tien Duong and Thuong Dien houses, has a rectangular floor plan, an area of 147m2. Currently, the traces of the architectural foundation have changed compared to the general plan structure of the original public-shaped architecture.
Thuong Dien: The North is directly based on the rocky cliff side, has a rectangular plan, an area of 202.5m2, similar to the front hall and also has a structure of 5 compartments, 6 rows of columns, each row has 4 column. The distance between the widest nave is 4.4m, the two sides are 3.9m wide, the distance between the main column and the military column is 1.7m, the distance between the main columns in the same space is 3.1m.
Tower garden: The tower garden is located on the high mountainside at the back, ie the north of the pagoda. In this area, traces of 6 towers have been identified, of which one is relatively intact, one has fallen and has been rebuilt, the rest have all collapsed.
The monk's house: The monk's house is a place for monks and Buddhists to live, work and study. The monk's house is located in an area of about 400m2, in the east of the temple, on a relatively flat land and about 1.5m lower than the temple floor. The house looks to the south, the back is leaning against the mountain in the north, running across the front is the road to the main temple area.

The ancestral house area: The ancestral house area is located in the north of the house, about 6m higher than the house and is adjacent to the tower garden in the east. This area has an area of nearly 180m2, remaining traces of a rectangular architectural plan with an area of about 130m2. The four sides of the foundation are embanked with sandstone and pebbles. The foundation of the building has largely been removed from its original position. In addition to architectural traces, in this area were found two stone statues, carved from monolithic stone, consisting of two parts: the body and the statue's pedestal. The relics found allow us to confirm that this is the area of the ancestral house, the place to worship the three ancestors of Truc Lam (Dieu Ngu Buddha Hoang Tran Nhan Tong, Phap Loa and Huyen Quang).
Beer house area: The beer house area is about 150m east of the central area, from 2005 to 2010 is the main temple area and the living area of the temple. In this area, the renovation and new construction has distorted the original appearance. The stele house is made of green stone, has a rectangular plane, the surface area is 9.73m2. The house is assembled with large stone blocks, the roof is covered with stone panels, the wall is joined by 6 stone panels, notably on each stone panel behind the wall, a Sanskrit word is embossed in a cross-frame, the content of these six Sanskrit words is a mantra of Tantra called "Mantra of self-magnification". In the middle of the stele, there is a large stele named Tru Phong Tru Phong self-biography, which means the stele of Tru Phong pagoda restoration. Around the 2000s, the beer house collapsed, in 2009 the beer house was restored.
Pure room: Tinh room is a place to meditate for monks, in Ho Thien Tinh room is a place dedicated to high monks to practice meditation. The retreat area is distributed on the mountain behind the pagoda. During Le Trung Hung's reign, these rooms continued to be used as a place to practice meditation. There are currently 3 rooms discovered, in which Ham Long is located in the highest position and is also the largest-scale. The appearance of the sanctuary in Ho Thien is probably also evidence to confirm the legend that Ho Thien is a training place for high monks. If Quynh Lam is the training center of the Truc Lam Zen sect, then Ho Thien is the place to train monks after completing the course at Quynh Lam Academy.

Ho Thien - where the high monks after finishing their courses at Quynh Lam Institute came back here to continue their practice; one of the 14 relics belonging to the Tran Dynasty relic site in Dong Trieu is now gradually being revived. With historical and cultural values that have been ranked by the state, Ho Thien is a typical spiritual tourist destination of the Tran Dynasty Special National Monument, Dong Trieu town.
